Here’s a sample from Helene Berk, ME.d, R.D. and author on diet and nutrition from S. California:

“Killers in the Kitchen vs. Conscious Therapeutic Cuisine" by Helene Berk, MEd., R.D

The path to healing becomes a simple process when you create a mind-set of stocking your kitchen with the right stuff: conscious and therapeutic cuisine. Why invest hard-earned dollars on mediocre groceries loaded with processed oils, high fructose corn syrup (YES, IT REALLY IS THAT BAD FOR YOU), artificial colors, flavors.

Conscious cuisine is free of:
(1) MSG, (2) synthetic ingredients [e.g., artificial colors, flavors, preservatives], (3) toxic and/or glycemic sweeteners [e.g., corn syrup/ high-fructose corn syrup, bleached sugars, “brown sugar”, Sucralose – which has been linked to headaches], (4) trans fats [e.g., hydrogenated & partially hydrogenated oils], (5) over-processed/refined/enriched/fiber-free/bleached flours.

Hormones and antibiotics are big no-no’s, too. But, you won’t find these “additives” included in the ingredient list. When checking’ out the chicken, if the package fails to say: “hormone and/or anti-biotic free”, consider you are eating tortured animals.

Because fructose is low-glycemic, at one time, I approved it for my patients. Now we know, “High Fructose Corn Syrup” [HFCS] is digested, absorbed and metabolized unlike most glycemic sweeteners, such as table sugar or honey. It is processed by the liver. Recent studies indicate HFCS promotes fat-storage, yet fails to trigger the release of insulin, leading to insulin insensitivity, i.e., metabolic syndrome/pre-diabetes/type 2 diabetes. HFCS also fails to trigger release of leptin, a hormone related to feeling satisfied. That’s why, it is difficult to stop eating when munching on foods with HFCS.

“Proactive Steps to Avoid Hearing,
You Have Breast Cancer…

Sherri Tenpenny, DO August 13, 2007
Breast cancer strikes fear in the hearts of all women. Most have known someone who has been treated for breast cancer or worse, has died from the disease. Historically, breast cancer was diagnosed after a woman sought medical attention for soreness or a palpable mass. Annual mammogram screenings have become the “gold standard” for breast cancer screening with the goal of finding tumors before they can be felt. However, mammography is a late test. It does not prevent cancer; it detects it. Better than early detection is to not get cancer at all.

What else can be done?
Thermography, also called digital infrared imaging (digital IR), was FDA approved
for breast screening since 1982. It is painless, non-invasive and uses no radiation.
The scan detects thermal patterns not seen by other tools. Abnormal cells require
a steady supply of nutrients for rapid growth. A process called angiogenesis draws
blood vessels in the direction of the atypical cell. More blood flow to the area delivers
more heat that can be measured by the scanner.

Excerpt from:
1. Why do you recommend a vegan diet for diabetes?

Neil Barnard, M.D. Physicians Council for Responsible Medicine
Vegan diets, which contain no animal products (meat, dairy, eggs, or other animal products), are healthier than other diets, because they contain no cholesterol and less fat,
saturated fat, and calories than meat-based diets or ovolacto vegetarian diets. Scientific research shows that health benefits increase as the amount of food from animal sources
in the diet decreases, making vegan diets the most healthful overall.

2. I want to try a vegan diet. How should I start?
If a plant-based diet is new to you, you’ll be pleased to discover a wonderful additional
benefit to vegan eating: It’s a fun way to explore delicious new foods. Start by checking
out our Vegan Diet: How-to Guide for Diabetes and our Vegetarian Starter Kit, both of
which explain the New Four Food Groups and offer useful tips, the “whys” and “hows” of a healthier diet, and easy-to-make recipes. 3. Are carbohydrates bad for you?
Some people imagine that pasta, bread, potatoes, and rice are fattening, but the opposite is actually true. Carbohydrate-rich foods are helpful for permanent weight control because they contain less than half the calories of fat, which means that replacing fatty foods with complex carbohydrates automatically cuts calories. It’s important to remember to eat healthful carbohydrates, such as whole grains, pasta, brown rice, and sweet potatoes. Processed carbohydrates, such as white bread and white rice, are not as healthful a choice because they have lost much of their fiber and other nutrients and tend to have a higher glycemic index.

4. Why low-fat?
High-fat foods increase insulin resistance. Following a low-fat diet not only helps improve insulin’s action but will also help reduce blood sugar, aid weight loss, and lower your cholesterol.

5. How much fat is allowed?
By avoiding animal products and added oils you will be able to keep your total fat intake around 20 grams per day. To help meet this, look for foods that have no more than 2 to 3 grams of fat per serving.
